We went to the Shanghai World Expo on May 1st, Labor Day. We hadn’t planned on going, but the day before our friend gave us 2 tickets, so we went. It was actually not that crowded. We took subway line 9 from Xujiahui to Ma Dang Road Station, then transferred to the special Expo Line #13. We went around noon, so there were no lines at all at the security posts. We took Line 13 right into the heart of the Pudong Expo site. Very smooth. Bathrooms were all empty and clean. So far so good.
The first pavilion we visited was Finland. Surprisingly, there weren’t that many people in line. From the outside it looks like a big bowl, very cool, very modern. It’s actually kind of hollow inside, and the material they used lets the light in from above so it’s very bright. Very simple and classy design.
Both my husband and I love Mexican food. Every once a while, well, about every 2 weeks, we start to crave it. But living in Shanghai, it hasn’t been easy trying to satisfy this particular craving. We used to order from Taco Popo via Sherpas delivery. But Taco Popo seems to have closed down. We tried to go to Cal Kitchen on Da Gu Road yesterday, but that turned out to be closed too. Zapata and Maya is ok, but only seems to be open for dinner. Mexico Lindo is ok, well, just ok based on the one time that I tried it. We walked by Adobo, but the pictures outside the door didn’t look that good.
So, when it comes down to authentic Mexican food like the ones we had back in California, the closest that we have found is Cantina Agave on Fu Min Road. I would recommend the soft taco(20rmb or 55rmb for combo), the Burrito Papito(House Way)(65rmb), or the Parilla Combo Plate with Chorizo& Potato and Lengua-Beef Tongue(75rmb). We always get a large guacamole (20rmb) and sour cream (8rmb) on the side. We haven't tried the Nachos, but the table next to us did, and it looked pretty good. We basically go there every time feeling really hungry, and come out holding our stomachs. Please eat slowly, something we haven’t learned to do.
