I’ve lived in LA for 5 years but I never knew there was a Page Museum. It’s not surprising since my friend who has lived here for 20 years doesn’t know about it either.
But it is really an amazing place, whose historical significance is as important, if not more important than the terricotta soldiers. There are millions of fossils of pre-historic animals uncovered here in the tar pits, like from 10,000-40,000 years ago, from the Ice Ages! Apparently, these tar pits are death traps for animals, and over the past thousands of years, millions of animals have been trapped in these tar pits, and they have been very well preserved even after all these years. These animals are all extinct, but at least you know they really existed. Pretty cool.
I found out that they offer free admission the first Tuesday of every month, which happened to be today! So we headed over there. Parking is $9, and $7 with museum validation.
They are constantly uncovering new fossils and there are people working on cleaning and organizing them. This is a picture of someone who is working. Lots of volunteers too. If I lived in LA, I would love to be a volunteer here. So interesting!
over 400 wolf skulls:(400多个狼的头骨)
One of the tar pits, you can see some bones stuck in there:(可以看到柏油里还有动物的骨头)
