I had so much fun with Ayesha on this trip to Honolulu, if you want to read the English blog, please scroll to the bottom of this blog.
Heather

Day1:
Finally arrived in Honolulu. And it’s still the 27th, cuz we just travelled back in time. It’s great! I left Japan at 7:40pm on the 27th and I arrive in Honolulu at 7:30am on the 27th. It’s like for me 27th this year has 48 hours instead of 24. So happy to see Ayesha! My oldest and best friend that I’ve known since 8th grade. It’s our first vacation together, I’m sure there will be many more in the future. I feel like I’m back in high school again, checking out cute guys playing volleyball on the beach, sharing girls’ secrets over lunch…I love it!
The first meal was Pho, of course! Really really good!
I was a bit tired from the jetlag, so we took a 3 hour nap before going out for a walk on the beach. And for dinner, I had to have a burger. And boy did we have the best burger ever! Kobe Burger is so awesome that my mouth waters just thinking about it. We’ll have to go back for another one very soon. Wish I can pack one back to Shanghai for ZZ. It’s to die for!
Day2:
I slept so well last night. That hotel bed is so comfortable! We tried to book Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay for today, but it was too late. So we booked Snorkeling for tomorrow. We headed to IHOP for breakfast, turned out it was already time for lunch. I ordered the steak omelete. It looked better in the picture.
We booked Parasailing in the afternoon. That was really awesome! We decided to go for the 700ft one. There was also 350ft, and I heard later there was also 1200ft. The truth is, when you are up there in the air, there’s no way you’ll know how high you are. I figured we were probably at 700, but 1200? I doubt it. We met this couple that just moved to Hawaii from Kansas. What a big move! I envy them very much!
After parasailing, we met our friend Michael at his store in Ala Moana Shopping Center. We loved his Blue Hawaii Lifestyle shop! That Acai Bowl is so unbelievably good we have to go back for another one. They also have great organic honey and jams, with flavors like Guava, Guava Strawberry, Passion Fruit, Papaya-pineapple…If you have a chance, have to go and try some!
I kept thinking about getting a Tattoo, and I read in a booklet today about a place called Tattoolicious, not far from us. I am determined to get one now. A nice surprise for my hubby!
Day3:
Snorkeling 10am at Hanauma Bay. Get up at 8:40am, only got time for McDonalds breakfast. Of course I didn’t mind at all, it was how I planned it. We booked with Tommy’s Tour, Jerry was the driver who picked up. He’s adorable, spent a lot of time telling us the dangers of standing on reefs and poking into the holes of those reefs. It freaked us out, scared us real good, but kept us safe out of trouble. When we got close to Hanauma Bay, I started remembering that I’ve been here more than once before. I think I came here with mom and dad the first time, and then drove with ZZ here the 2nd time. It all started to come back to me, even the shopping center where we had lunch afterwards. Last time we just rented gear when we got to the Bay, this time our package included gear. But we had to carry the fins and snorkel goggles all the way down and up the hill, didn’t like that. There’s a tram that will take you down to the beach for 0.75 each person, and another $1 to come back up later. Today the current was quite strong, so visibility was not great. But we still saw so many different kinds of fishes, all different colors and sizes.
We went to the Cheeseburger place for another serving of Kobe Burger and fries. After that, I think I finally got the burger craving out of my system. I was really happy to find the Tattoolicious shop so close to the Burger restaurant. They first told me all the artists were booked until mid November, I was really disappointed. But I said I just wanted a really small one. The girl said I can go ahead and choose something and then she’ll see if she can try to fit me in. After looking through all their design catalogues, I finally found this pretty, elegant butterfly that I just loved! And they had a cancellation so they can fit me in tomorrow afternoon. Oh, it feels like such a big decision to get a tattoo! I had to really think about it, is that what I really wanted? It’s pretty permanent. Ok, Just do it! What the hell?! It’s my life, it’s my body! And I’ve wanted to get a tattoo for a long time. I won’t get this chance for a long time. I don’t’ want to do it in China. So, I paid the deposit, made and appointment for tomorrow 4:30pm. I’m excited and a little freaked out at the same time! I hope it’s not too painful! I hope it turns out nice! I’m glad Ayesha is with me for this.
We went to Ala Moana street for dinner. There’s this Japanese restaurant by the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. We ordered a paper hotpot, cuz the next table had it and it smelt so good. Then we ordered Spicy Tuna rolls and Rainbow rolls. It tasted pretty good. I had most of it. Ayesha really liked the Jack-O-Lanterns in front of the restaurant, and wanted to take a photo with them when we came out. But when we finished, they had already been taken back to the Frig, so we asked them to bring out 2 of them so we can take pictures with them.
We found this dessert place that Ayesha read about in some magazine, it’s called Red Mango. It’s basically just frozen yogurt with different toppings. But they have flavors like Pumpkin Spice and Pomegranate. I ordered the Pumpkin Spice with raspberries on top. Really good! Highly recommend.
Day4:
Today we decided to take the bus to Kailua Beach. We met a nice lady at the bus station who told us which bus to take, where to go and not to go, what to watch out for… It seems to me buses are now a lot less frequent than 6 years ago, we just missed one and had to wait nearly an hour for the next one. Back then you can pay $2, get on one bus, then use the transfer ticket to transfer as many times as you can, as long as it’s within the 2 hour time limit, now you can only use the transfer ticket once and they take it in. So now I don’t recommend taking the bus to tour the island, I say rent a car if you don’t have a lot of time to waste waiting for buses.
Kailua beach is really nice, used to be one of the best beaches in the USA. I wish we had time to kayak to Mokulua Island to see some Big Turtles, but we didn’t. I had to get back for my tattoo appointment at 4:30pm.
We stopped by Ala Moana Center for an order of Blue Hawaiian Acai Bowl at the Blue Hawaii Lifestyle Store, we just love it!
We managed to make my appointment on time. Did I have second thoughts? Not at all. My motto has always been:Try everything once. If you like it, do it again. If you don’t, then at least you know. Heather was great! She made me feel very comfortable and I felt safe in her hands. The pain was what I expected, at times it made me cringe, but mostly it was bearable. And when it finally ended, I was kinda wanting more. She did a great job! Exactly what I wanted! I love my tattoo! I can’t wait to show it off! I’m already thinking about my next tattoo, where will I put it and what will it be?
Our friend Michael took us to his house for dinner. What a gorgeous house! And the view is unbelievable! The entire ocean in front of you when you are sitting there on the balcony. His sons are so adorable. Charlie is smart and funny and artistic, and he goes to the same school that Obama went to.
Day5:
Today we took the bus to Pearl Harbor and after that we went to the swapmeet at Aloha Stadium. It was a hot day but it didn’t affect our shopping spirit at all. The only reason we stopped was because we had both run out of money. I even bought a new suitcase to fit everything we bought!
Tonight is Halloween! And what better place to spend it than here in Hawaii?! I let Ayesha wear my pirate costume, and I just wore a Chinese Qipao. We hit the busiest street in Waikiki around 9 or 10pm. It was already full of people, or maybe I should say ghosts?! There were some pretty creative ones and pretty sexy ones. Lots of sexy cops, lots of nuns, lots of pirates, this guy who walked around as the H1N1 virus and a cute doctor who was giving out free mammograms, and the Tinman and Dorothy. We didn’ t get back to our hotel until around 2am.
Well, this is the end of another great vacation! There are still things we wanted to do but didn’t get a chance to do, like visiting another island, or taking a helicopter ride, or skydive...That means there will be a next time.
